Construction to Reroute Traffic Along the Twin Bridges
Starting March 29th, traffic on the north bound bridge crossing the Ohio river at Henderson Kentucky will be changed. Similar changes will also take place along the south bridge starting April 2nd.
Local residents will remember last year when both bridges were reduced to 1 lane; at rush hour traffic times in the afternoon, this changed a 2-3 minutes drive into a 2 hour and 45 minute period of insanity. After a week, Kentucky Department of Transportation officials changed the traffic flow to one lane of traffic along the north bound bridge and squeezed three lanes of traffic onto the south bound bridge.
With three lanes of traffic on the south bound bridge, traffic moved slowly, but it moved. Problems occurred when there were wrecks on the south bridge, because with traffic at tight as physically possible, emergency crews, law enforcement, or tow trucks simply could not get to the wrecks.
Nothing official has been said yet, but look for the traffic patterns to be opposite of last year, with three lanes of traffic squeezed onto the north bridge with one lane of traffic on the south bridge.
