Winter Cold and Flu Season in Full Swing
Normally, the winter cold and flu season starts near the end of the year at the start of winter. This year, the Evansville area has had a warmer than normal winter; it wasn’t until Monday that Evansville had a serious winter storm.
When your nose starts to feel congested or you get that tickle in the back of your throat, that normally means you’re about to get hit by a cold, or worse. Most of the time, there isn’t much you can do to stop getting sick but there are a few actions that you can take to knock the wind out of your sickness and or shorten the length of the sickness.
- Vitamin C — Orange juice, Sunny D, grape juice, vegetables, and vitamin C supplements, anything you can think of to get more vitamin C into your system. Do it as soon as you feel that tickle and get that sniffle.
- Rest –Don’t push yourself. Rest when and where you can. That doesn’t mean lie in bed all day long; who can do that? Give your body the chance to fight off the sickness. If it’s having to repair itself from exercising, what time or resources will it have to fight off illness?
- Wash your hands — Think of it as preventative measures. Wash your hands regularly to remove any other possible germs so they too can’t get a foot hold in your system while it’s weakened.
Follow these steps and you’ve given your body atleast a fighting chance to fight off your cold before you actually feel sick.
